Whether the sun is shining or the snow is falling, there is the opportunity to take a luxury break around the world. Here’s my guide to the very best luxury holiday to take for each season.
There are two obvious choices here. Treat yourself to some winter sun, or enjoy the cold climate by heading for the mountains for a ski break. If the cold air has proven too much and you’re in desperate need for some sun, then the winter is a great time to take a trip East. Visit glamorous Dubai, where you’ll be guaranteed to relax in luxury from the moment you arrive. Top destinations here include the Palm of Dubai. A great alternative to Dubai if you’re looking for somewhere a little different is Oman, which benefits from the same hot climate and affords the visitor with great opulence for a lower price than its more famed neighbour. Alternatively, visit the Islands of Mauritius, The Seychelles or The Maldives where you’ll be able to recline back on white beaches, looking out to the crystal clear seas and soaking up the tropical paradise before you.
To enjoy the cold weather, The Alps offers arguably the best experience to ski in Europe. France offers up luxury in Meribel, one of the oldest ski resorts in the country and L’Alpe d’Huez, one of the largest French resorts. I would also highly recommend visiting the Tyrol province in Austria which will allow you to relax in finery in historic Innsbruck, before heading off to idyllic Kitzbuhel. This famous ski resort is arguably the best in Europe, offering great skiing and beautiful vistas, as well as luxury hotels and gourmet dining to complete the experience. Within North America, there are a number of the best ski resorts in the world. America offers the chance to visit both the glamorous Aspen and traditional Vail in Colorado or Stowe in Vermont whilst top Canadian ski resorts include Banff, Alberta and Whistler, BC.
Spring is a great time to take a city break, especially within Europe as the cities emerge from winter in all their glory. Top destinations include Paris, London and Amsterdam. Spain is a magnificent destination during Spring offering the chance to explore the iconic cities of Madrid and Barcelona. For something a little different, visit Seville or Bilbao. Both offer fine Spanish hospitality, fantastic architecture to marvel at and great cultural sites to explore including the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Alternatively, head into the mountain terrain of Europe to watch the cities bloom out of the snowy climate. Bern in Switzerland is a fantastic city to visit, in a country which truly appreciates luxury. Enjoy a 5* stay in the Bellevue Palace, a traditional luxury hotel, before enjoying the cultural delight of the city including The Einstein Museum and the Paul Klee Centre.
If you didn’t catch any winter sun or if you’re just in need of a break away in the heat, then a beach holiday has to be the only way to spend your summer holiday. Europe’s Mediterranean offers some of the best Summer weather in the continent , with great destinations including Italy’s Amalfi Coast, the glamorous South Of France and The Greek Islands. All provide a great location and have a great heritage for luxury villas which are the perfect accommodation for your luxury summer holiday. For something a little different, why not visit Malta or Gozo. These beautiful islands offer a unique summer break, nestled within the Mediterranean Sea. Gozo not only has a beautiful array of beaches including Xlendi Bay, but you’ll also be treated to rolling hills, fantastic diving opportunities and some of the oldest historical sites in Europe.
Autumn heralds the best time to take a luxury safari break, as the animals begin to migrate and the climate is at optimum levels for the best safari experience. Take a trip to Africa and you’re spoilt for choice. Botswana offers possibly the most exclusive experience for your safari as many of the key safari sites are extremely remote and can only be accessed by charter plane. You’ll be rewarded with a chance to see some of the most diverse wildlife in the world. Top sites here include Chobe National Park and Tuli Block. Tanzania is also a fantastic place to visit throughout the Autumn months and I would definitely recommend the Selous Game Reserve for a spectacular wildlife experience.
