Looking for a beach holiday this July? Whether it’s a quiet, relaxing break or an activity filled holiday, we have it all covered.
July heralds the start of the summer holidays and time to pack your bags and head off for a break beside the sea. Whether you’re seeking an active holiday or a relaxing break, there are many locations to keep every type of traveller happy. Here’s my top beach destinations for the perfect break this July.
The largest of the Greek Islands, Crete is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece and it’s easy to see why. Home to over 300 beaches around the coast, it’s entirely possible that you’ll simply spend your holiday here sampling as many of the sun-drenched beach havens as you possibly can. July sees fantastic weather across the island, with temperatures averaging 26 degrees, warm sea temperatures and up to 13 hours of sun.
I highly recommend visiting the award-winning beaches of Falassarna Bay on the northwest coast. With five large beaches to choose from, you’ll find yourself amongst a tropical slice of paradise with white sands and crystal clear waters. You’ll even find roman ruins to explore at the far end of the bay. For a beach to suit the whole family, visit the seaside resort of Bali which is located on the northern coast. Not only is it utterly stunning to look at but you’ll also find it fantastic for swimming and diving and it’s a great resort for dining out too. Alternatively, for something truly special, make a trip to Lefkadia Beach. Sitting 13km from Heraklion, this remote beach is a bit of a trek to get to as it’s best reached by sea but it’s utterly worth it once you arrive. Here you’ll find two secluded bays surrounded by a rocky landscape so perfect you’ll never want to leave.
Many tourists are put off visiting the Caribbean from June onwards due to hurricane season but if you choose your destination right, then it can be the perfect time to go with prices at their lowest and destinations relatively quiet. Head for the islands in the southeast, such as Aruba, St.Lucia and Barbados as they are usually the least affected by hurricane season.
Temperatures are still warm, averaging from 78 degrees upwards, and the sun is very much out in force. With idyllic beaches to relax on, a wild Caribbean atmosphere to let your hair down with and tropical surroundings, this is the perfect place for your summer vacation. Go diving, sample some traditional cuisine or explore caves, volcanoes and forests, the Caribbean really as it all. July also sees many festivals throughout the region including the Tobago Heritage Festival and the Dominica Dive Festival.
The north and eastern regions of Sri Lanka come into their own during the summer months, providing the perfect weather to enjoy their coast. Enjoy endless days of sunshine and tropical weather, with temperatures averaging 27 degrees throughout July. If you can bear to tear yourself away from the beaches, you should also try to visit the Kandy Esala Peragera festival, a Buddhist festival which runs for 10 days or take a trip south to turtle watch in Rekawa.
For your active beach break, you simply have to visit Arugam Bay. Sitting on the shores of the Indian Ocean, this is a top destination for surfing. You should also visit Trincomalee on the Eastern coast where you can explore the port as well as enjoy surfing, diving and whale watching. If you yearn for something more relaxing, the northern coast is definitely the place for you. Less developed than the rest of the country, the beaches of Casuarina and Vankalai are unspoilt and provide the perfect location to soak up the sun.
