Holiday packages

Just over 100 miles from the west coast of Africa are the spanish owned Canary Islands. Bless with year round sunshine and warm climate, they’ve been popular with tourists from all over the world for over 50 years.

While synonymous with package holidays and typical resort vacations, there’s a lot more to the Canaries than meets the eye. With a solid and thriving tourism industry there’s a wealth of luxury accommodation and activities here too. Here’s our pick of great hotels and resorts from and why your next luxury holiday should be in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

One hotel that repeatedly gets voted one of the best in the Canaries is the Iberostar Mencey in Santa Cruz De Tenerife. Built in the 1950s when luxury holidays in the sun were starting to take off. The architecture is striking while the interior design is modern and clean. It’s classical look and attention to detail are what make it really stand out. A pleasurable place to spend time, the indoor pool is to die for and the entire resort is just a short walk from Santa Cruz town centre. If you want to feel truly pampered this is a great resort that are sure to look after you.

Gran Canaria

You’ll find a feast of fantastic luxury hotels and resorts in the Canaries. Many of which tout themselves as spas too. One of my favourites is the Bohemia Suites & Spa on Gran Canaria. Set back from the beach it offers a much more luxurious and relaxing resort experience than the beach front properties. Focussing on healthy treatments, serene poolside experience and fine dining, Its everything you need to unwind and enjoy the sunshine, away from the crowds.

There is one luxury hotel on the slightly quieter island of Fuerteventura that encompasses everything you’d want from your holiday. The aptly named Sheraton Fuerteventura Beach, Golf & Spa Resort in Caleta De Fuste. The name says it all really, whether you’re looking for some sunshine on the beach, a relaxing spa treatment or a round of golf, you’ll find everything here and much more besides.

Located in a residential area of Fuerteventura, you get the best of both worlds here with every resort facility you’d want coupled with calm and serene surroundings. With 266 rooms to choose from and perfectly manicured gardens, this really is a great place to bring a loved one or your entire family. There’s 4 themed restaurants within the resort and a collection of great bars to frequent in the evenings. There’s 4 outdoor pools along with all the activities you’d want to keep the family occupied. You can even have a go at archery!

If you’re looking for something a little more intimate and quiet then look no further than La Villa Vik in Playa Del Cable, Lanzarote. Again this hotel is in a residential area, away from the usual tourist crowds. Once a large private villa, La Villa Vik is now a number of 5 star rooms overlooking a perfectly presented pool and relaxed surroundings. There’s an intimate bar and a quiet little restaurant to enjoy, the style here is definitely “less is more”. Renovated in 2007, there’s a modern touch with classical styling here which adds to the warm and cosy feeling you get, especially as the sun sets. The beach is just 200 metres away and you’re just a short cab ride away from Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote.

La Villa Vik is a great slice of quality without the brash trappings of some luxury hotels. Perfect for a classically luxurious stay in the Canaries.
